Barquell Rivers
Virginia Tech #52
Friday, January 15, a special guest, Barquell Rivers visited AES. Barquell graduated from Anson High School in 2007 and now plays as the middle linebacker for the Virginia Tech Hokies. Barquell visited a couple of classrooms and talked to the students about setting goals and working hard to make their goals a reality. The students were thrilled and very receptive of all he had to say. He told the children about how he decided in the 5th grade to change and become a better student and person. He explained how he made his mind up to go to college and earn a degree. When he finishes playing for Virginia Tech he not only will have his degree in Residential Property Management, he will also have his masters degree. He even gave out autographs! Thanks Barquell for taking time out of your Christmas break to come and see us!
The Macs Have Arrived!
Twenty-three Apple laptops were delivered Friday to AES thanks to a grant the school won! The sixth graders assisted Mr. Swails, our county technician, in setting up the wireless access point and naming the computers. The computers will be shared by all of the classes at AES to integrate technology into the daily curriculum. The students will be able to create keynote presentations, research using the Internet, and use their word processing skills to complete assignments.
